Sticker capsules are one of CS2’s most engaging cosmetic systems — offering a way to personalize weapons, participate in the Major tournament economy, and potentially profit from an active trading market. Whether you are new to stickers or looking to understand crafting culture and capsule value, this guide covers everything: capsule types, how stickers work, foil/holo/gold rarity, Major capsules and the revenue split, and the art of the sticker craft. What Are Sticker Capsules?
Sticker capsules are purchasable containers that cost a small amount to unlock (with a key) and yield a single sticker. Unlike weapon cases, sticker capsules do not contain weapon skins — they exclusively produce stickers that can then be applied to any weapon skin in your inventory. Stickers are purely cosmetic and do not affect gameplay.
There are several categories of sticker capsules:
- Team Capsules — Feature stickers for professional CS2 organizations
- Player Autograph Capsules — Feature individual player signature stickers
- Event/Tournament Capsules — Released alongside Majors and other events
- Community Capsules — Feature artwork submitted and voted on by the community
- Seasonal/Operation Capsules — Tied to limited-time operations or seasonal events
Major Sticker Capsules: The Most Important Category
Major tournament capsules are the most impactful sticker products in CS2. Released during each Major, they feature autograph stickers from competing players and team logo stickers. Their value is driven by several factors:
- The player’s career trajectory — a player who wins a Major and becomes an all-time legend will see their sticker increase in value over time
- Rarity tier of the sticker — Holo, Foil, and Gold stickers from the same capsule are worth more than regular paper stickers
- Tournament significance — stickers from legendary Majors carry sentimental and monetary premiums
Revenue Split at Majors
During an active Major, 50% of proceeds from the sale of team and player sticker capsules are distributed to the professional teams and players featured in that capsule. This is a significant source of income for professional CS2 organizations and players, and it directly incentivizes the community to support their favorite teams by purchasing capsules during active events rather than after. After the Major ends, no further revenue goes to teams from secondary market sales.
Sticker Rarity Tiers
Stickers from capsules come in multiple rarity tiers, with very different drop rates:
- Normal (Paper) — The most common sticker type; a flat printed design. Low value individually, but can be used in quantity for crafts.
- Holo — Features a holographic sheen that moves with the viewing angle. More visually impressive than paper stickers. Holo stickers from Major capsules are popular in crafting.
- Foil — A metallic-foil finish that gives a bright, polished appearance. Rarer than Holo, and typically commands a premium on the market.
- Gold — The rarest sticker tier from most capsules. Gold stickers have a solid gold metallic finish and are the most recognizable high-value stickers in the game. A Gold autograph sticker from a legendary player can be worth hundreds of dollars.
How to Apply Stickers to Weapons
Applying a sticker to a weapon is a permanent action — once applied, the sticker is part of that weapon and cannot be fully removed (only scraped). To apply a sticker:
- Right-click the sticker in your inventory and select Apply to a weapon
- Select the weapon skin you want to decorate
- Choose one of the four sticker slots on the weapon
- Confirm the placement — the sticker is now permanently applied
Different weapon skins have four sticker slots in different physical locations on the gun model. The position of each sticker slot varies by weapon, and some slots are more visible than others during gameplay and in the inspection animation.
Scraping Stickers
Stickers on a weapon can be scraped, which gradually degrades the visual appearance of the sticker while keeping it on the weapon. Scraping enough times will fully remove the sticker. The scraping stages progress from clean to worn to nearly destroyed. This process cannot be undone.
In most cases, scraping a valuable sticker reduces both its visual appeal and the weapon’s overall market value, so it is generally not recommended unless intentional.
Sticker Crafting: The Art of the Craft
Sticker crafting is the community practice of applying valuable, rare, or visually impressive stickers to weapon skins to create a craft — a unique, custom combination that can be worth significantly more than the sum of its parts. Crafting is not an official game mechanic but an emergent community-driven tradition with its own culture, pricing benchmarks, and dedicated enthusiasts.
What Makes a Good Craft?
- Thematic alignment — Stickers that visually complement the weapon skin’s color scheme or theme. A gold sticker on a gold-toned skin, or a player sticker on a skin they are known for using in competition.
- Matching four stickers — Applying four copies of the same rare sticker (especially Holo or Gold) is considered a top-tier craft and is called a 4x craft.
- Historical combinations — Combining a legendary player’s autograph sticker with a well-known signature weapon creates builds that are highly regarded in the trading community.
- Pattern matching — On pattern-based skins like Case Hardened, sticker placement that aligns with the skin’s visual pattern is valued by collectors.
Craft Value vs. Sticker Value
A well-executed craft can multiply the value of a base skin. A Minimal Wear AK-47 Redline with four Holo stickers from a prestigious early Major can be worth dramatically more than the same skin without stickers. However, a poorly chosen sticker combination on an expensive skin can reduce value — buyers in the craft market have specific tastes and benchmarks.
Irreversibility and Risk
Crafting carries inherent risk: applying an expensive sticker to a modest base skin may result in a combined item that the market does not value proportionally. The craft market is based on community perception, not a fixed formula. Research specific craft precedents and recent sales before committing expensive stickers to any weapon.
Notable High-Value Sticker Capsules
| Capsule | Notable For | Market Status |
|---|---|---|
| Katowice 2014 (various) | First Major capsules; iconic rarity | Extremely high value, collector tier |
| Katowice 2015 Holo/Foil | Legendary design era; most sought-after Holos | Very high value |
| Cologne 2014 | Early Major; team logos still recognized today | High value |
| Recent Major Autographs | Active player signatures | Moderate; rises with player legacy |
| Community Capsules | Fan art and community designs | Low to moderate; niche demand |
Tips for Buying and Opening Sticker Capsules
- Buy capsules from active Majors during the event if you want to support teams — revenue share only applies during the active tournament period.
- Holo and Gold stickers from early Majors are irreplaceable; supply only decreases as they are applied to weapons and leave the tradeable pool.
- If you are opening capsules for crafting, opening in bulk is the only way to reliably access specific rare tiers — single capsule openings are highly random.
- Check community sticker craft databases before applying rare stickers — understand what combinations are considered desirable before committing.
- For investment purposes, sealed capsules from early Majors have historically appreciated, but past performance is not a guarantee of future value.
Sticker Application: Practical Notes
A well-placed Gold sticker on the right skin tells a story. Craft culture in CS2 is about creating something that can never be exactly replicated.
- Inspect a weapon on the Steam Market to preview where sticker slots appear on that specific model before buying.
- The front-left slot on most rifles is the most visible in first-person view, making it the primary slot for valuable stickers.
- The wear of a sticker degrades its appearance if scraped; preserve valuable stickers by not accidentally interacting with the scrape option.
- Some weapon models have sticker slots in positions that are barely visible in gameplay — check placement before applying.
