Souvenir packages are among the most distinctive and valuable items in CS2. Unlike standard weapon cases, souvenirs are not purchased — they are dropped exclusively during official CS2 Major tournaments, making them tied directly to competitive history. This guide explains exactly what souvenir packages are, how they are obtained, what makes them valuable, and how to distinguish a souvenir item from a standard skin. For an overview of all CS2 cases and packages, visit our CS2 cases guide.

What Are Souvenir Packages?

Souvenir packages are special weapon cases that drop to players who are watching an official CS2 Major via the game client. They contain a single souvenir weapon skin — a version of a skin from the map’s specific collection, permanently decorated with gold stickers commemorating the match, players, and tournament.

The key properties of souvenir items are:

  • They become tradeable after a cooldown period following the drop
  • The weapon inside is pre-applied with four gold stickers — the tournament sticker, the map sticker, and two player autograph stickers (typically the MVP of the round and the player who scored the kill)
  • The wear of the weapon inside is random, just like standard cases
  • Souvenir stickers are permanently part of the item and cannot be removed

How Souvenir Drops Work

To receive a souvenir drop, players must watch a Major match through the official CS2 client — either the in-game Major Watch tab or the official stream linked to the game client. Drops are distributed during specific rounds of play, and receiving one is random. Watching more rounds and more matches increases drop chances, but there is no guaranteed way to receive a souvenir during a given Major.

Drop Timing

Drops historically occur at round-end moments — particularly at the end of a half or at the end of the match. The in-game client notifies you if you receive a drop. Players who are not watching eligible streams during the Major receive no drops, regardless of play time in the game itself.

Which Package You Receive

The souvenir package you receive corresponds to the map being played during the round in which your drop triggers. If you receive a drop during a Mirage match, you get a Mirage Collection souvenir package. The contents of that package reflect the available skins from the Mirage collection.

The Gold Stickers: Why They Matter

Every souvenir weapon comes pre-applied with four gold-foil stickers. These stickers are what give souvenir items much of their value and character:

  1. Tournament Sticker — The Major’s official logo in gold foil (for example, a PGL Major gold sticker)
  2. Map Sticker — The specific map played (for example, Dust II or Mirage)
  3. Player Sticker 1 — Often the player who scored a key kill (gold autograph)
  4. Player Sticker 2 — Often the round or match MVP’s autograph in gold

The value of a souvenir is heavily influenced by whose autograph stickers appear on it. A souvenir featuring a legendary player’s signature — particularly a player who has since retired or who won the Major — is worth dramatically more than a souvenir featuring a lesser-known player’s sticker.

The Most Valuable Souvenir Items

AWP Dragon Lore

The AWP Dragon Lore souvenir is the single most famous souvenir item in CS2 history. The Dragon Lore is a rare skin from the Cobblestone Collection (tied to the Cobblestone map), and Factory New souvenir Dragon Lores with autographs from legendary players have sold for extraordinary amounts in peer-to-peer trades. The combination of a Factory New float, a beloved skin design, and a prestigious autograph creates the rarest category of CS2 item in existence.

Cobblestone was removed from the Major map pool at various points in CS2 history. The rarity of Dragon Lore drops during active Majors, combined with the prestige of the stickers, is what drives its exceptional value.

Other High-Value Souvenirs

  • M4A4 Howl Souvenir — The Howl is already one of the rarest skins in CS2 (it was removed from drops after a copyright dispute and became Contraband), making a souvenir version extraordinarily rare and valuable.
  • Souvenir AWP Medusa — From the Overpass collection; the Medusa is a premium skin and souvenir versions with good stickers command strong prices.
  • Souvenir AK-47 Fire Serpent — From certain operation collections; souvenir Fire Serpents with legendary signatures are collector items.

How to Tell a Souvenir from a Normal Skin

Identifying a souvenir item is straightforward once you know what to look for:

  • Gold stickers — All four sticker slots will be filled with gold foil tournament stickers. Non-souvenir skins can also have stickers applied, but they will not be pre-applied gold tournament stickers from the Major.
  • Souvenir in the name — Souvenir items are explicitly labeled in the item name on the Steam Market and in-game inventory (for example, «Souvenir AWP Dragon Lore (Factory New)»).
  • Gold border on description card — In the item inspect screen, souvenir items have a distinct golden border on their description card, setting them apart from normal skins.
  • No StatTrak — Souvenir items cannot be StatTrak. If you encounter a claim of a StatTrak Souvenir item, it is not legitimate.

Souvenir Package Value Factors

Factor Effect on Value
Skin contained (Dragon Lore, Medusa, others) Very High
Player autographs (retired legend vs active player) Very High
Float/wear (Factory New is rarest) High
Tournament significance (Grand Final matches) High
Map (Cobblestone vs common maps) High
Pattern seed (where applicable) Medium

Are Souvenir Packages Worth Opening?

Most souvenir packages are not worth opening for investment purposes — the vast majority of drops contain common skins from the map collection that are worth only a small amount. However, the possibility of receiving a high-value souvenir skin is what drives community fascination with the system.

For collectors, souvenirs represent a unique category: their value is tied to competitive history and cannot be replicated. A souvenir from a legendary Grand Final match, with the right stickers, is a piece of CS history in your inventory.

Buying Souvenirs on the Market

Souvenir packages themselves (the unopened package) can be purchased on the Steam Market or third-party platforms. The package price depends on the contained map’s collection and the prestige of the Major. Common souvenir packages from well-stocked collections are inexpensive, while Cobblestone-era packages command high premiums even before the Dragon Lore skin is considered.

Souvenir Drops at Recent Majors

Each CS2 Major continues to use the same core drop system, with Valve periodically refining the watch experience and drop eligibility. New Majors create new souvenir packages tied to whatever maps appear in the tournament — meaning each Major adds a fresh wave of souvenir items into the ecosystem. Watching a Major live in-client remains the only legitimate way to receive a souvenir drop for free.
